perception

dysmorphia

the cruel dimensions
of the mirror’s
reflections

reinforce
the distortions
of beauty

in an unforgiving world.

through the
defective perception

an internal
deception repeats

prompting
the desperate actions
of a lost little girl

    • I am always tentative to write about experiences that I have little personal exposure to for fear of broaching the topic with without the sensitivity or accuracy it deserves. I am glad that this piece resonated with you. Thank you for your comment and thank you even more for taking the time to read my poem.

  1. Beautiful, sad, accurate…I see young women curating their online images and selecting only perfect pictures to share, or apologizing for the way they look when in truth, they look amazing, and it breaks my heart.
