Wilkie, SK

prairie.jpg

shaded, dust licked alleys
fringed by chipped-tooth
fences

the gaps,
black peepholes
into stunted history

retired,
moaning diesel
pleads for mercy
or escape,

sun roasts an
air-sick
town

in the pitted heart
of prairie
grounds

  1. “sun roasts an air-sick town”, being drowned in an inability to appreciate the sun, and then the last stanza, in praire grounds where your heart shouldn’t be pitted and this ghost town shouldn’t be.

No idea, if that was where you’re going with this, but I thought it was masterful!
