each morning, greeted
shrill, grating ballad

wayward movements

through sweaty coils
of steam

some days, sunrise solace
others, pure annoyance.

autumn winds have bellowed

and plucked leaves
from your preferred tree

songbird’s absence
shadows silence,

my routine

  1. I totally connect with this! I love the song of the white-crowned sparrows, which live here about half the year and are the reason I get out of bed in the morning sometimes (to put seed in the feeder, and go back to bed for awhile). I sure miss them when they’re gone in the summer.
